Joe Bates, Sid Bryan and Cozette McCreery together make up Sibling an imaginative & intense men’s knitwear label. For London Fashion Week’s MAN Day they created an installation comprising three strip-lit visiting booths. This weird and witty film by hot young creatives Sam Renwick and Thomas Bryant documents the activities of the prisoners.
There is a press release that comes with this film – but as it was a commissioned for London Fashion week, I’m not going to try and repeat all the enigmatic statements therein, just that apperently this season “ leopard and twinsets are seen through a full-pelt high-octane orange ocelot print sweater and cardi, giant black and ink sequin design and dark jacquard zip jacket and joggers” – say no more!
Jokes aside this is an intruiging film that starts off quite documetary style and then throws in a few humourous curveballs – always delivered deadpan – are they all miserable or just playing with our heads? Also this triptych style is quite unusual – a screen split into two is fairly common, but you don’t see many in three. I guess that’s because it’s normally too hectic to follow the action on three parts of the screen. Here, as “prisoners” they can’t do so much, so it works… At the end of the day it is a fashion film, so you get to see a variety of their knitwear as well – not quite sure what part the balaclava with no eye or mouth holes plays in their collection – but certainly a talking point!
