We noticed this pleasingly quirky rebranding of CBS’ portfolio of TV channels across EMEA by Studio Hansa in partnership with Analog and GlossyRey recently and wanted to show you guys. I really liked the variety of live action cause and effect of the Reality ident, the hyper real 100% CGI of Network ident and the still motion tensionin the drama ident. In my opinion they managed to make these identities feel like they had some of the oddball humour of the cooler youth channels like E4 while covering some very mainstream programs Continue reading “Studio Hansa & Analog – CBS/Chellozone rebrand” »
I love this new project from Studio Hansa – something bourn from the impulse to be creative, rather than to make money. Nick Scott, creative director, told me the story behind this film: “originally we met the dancer known as Magical Bones (Richard Essien) when we were working on an MTV branding project. Sometime later he approached us with an idea and a modest budget to make a promotional video with a sort of urban “Cirque de Soleil” feeling, for a new show that combined dance and illusion which is due at the amazing Lost theatre in Wandsworth between 5th & 6th December – called ‘Sleight Of Dance’ -
The loose premise is the collision of dance and magic undertaken by two disparate sides of the same persona. Set against an urban backdrop the story serves as an odyssey that sees the two characters journey towards a final encounter – having surreal manifestations upon a cityscape. I’d heard that that there was a new kid on the block – Studio Hansa – so I rang up to find who was behind it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was Omar Honigh – ex Kemistry, and Nick Scott of “Nick Scott Studio Ltd”. The surprise was that I had worked with Nick many years ago, when he was at Static 2358, on the mega rebranding of all of Newscorp’s Star Channels.
So, Studio Hansa has set up it’s stall as a strategic branding and creative consultancy – with some old hands on board this new vessel. Nick was keen to point out their multi-platform approach, spanning brand identity, film, animation, print, packaging and increasingly content that connects through social and evolving media.
As an example of this they recently handled a campaign for CBS promoting a season of Star Trek programming – and although this was primarily a poster campaign, they still made a “making of” film, which I have posted here. The broadcaster briefed them to create a clever campaign for their iconic show: Star Trek The Next Generation from the CBS stable. Nick told me “Its fans are truly passionate, knowledgeable, fervent collectors of all things to do with the show. Since the property is a classic, we spotted an opportunity to create a buzz around the fans by putting them central to the creative, and developed the expression:
“Live Boldly. Love your Fan Side”
There are two things I’ve noticed about a lot of branding companies recently 1) a lot of their commissions are not destined for TV broadcast and 2) they see the value of creating sharable films and assets that can be passed around by industry professionals and fans alike.
